Cosplay prop - 001 by cat-cat Cosplay prop - 001 by cat-cat
Apologies for the lack of creativity in the title...

I finally got myself a little hand held hot wire cutter so I can now venture into the realm of prop making with craftfoam! And the first thing I made is an evoker to go with my Persona 3 cosplay~

As I have never came into contact with craftfoam before, the making of this piece involves a great deal of trial and error (also a hell of a lot of sanding with sandpapers) And to make things more complicated, I chose to spray paint the piece when I have never used spray paints before in my life... the result of the combination is a prop that would not be able to stand up to close scrutiny ^^;

But still, knowing my lack of talent in 3D art, I am quite proud of this :XD:

Do you have like... Step-by-step instructions? And maybe blueprints for cutting size/shape?

The one in the photo took me about 1 or 2 days to make I think. I had to do a lot of trial and error because it was my first time making anything out of styrofoam ^^;

wow, but still...it was worth it! :D Yea, styrofoam is hard to cut...espcially to what shape you want it to be...I tryed to use in to make a model @ Uni for Animation...boy do I suck at shaping styrofoam! XD

Very nice. Hopefully if you try to use it, someone won't think it's a real gun and think you're trying to commit suicide. XD;

Or better yet, my friend said he was going as the main character of P3. I told him to get a friend to cosplay as a persona, so he can "summon" him when he needs to. lol

How did you spray it? Basically you just have to hold the can at a slight angle from upright, 15-20cm away from the object, and gently press the nozzle and spray back to forth in a gentle motion. That's what it says on the back of cans LOL.

Impressive this, you said that you're bad at 3D but WHATEVER.

Those hot wire cutters scare the crap out of me. They're so small and they get so hot, I'm afraid it's going to burn my finger off. Oh, note, make sure you keep the window off. When the foam is burned by the wire cutter, it leaves a pretty nasty smell.
